The problem shows over time \u2014 wood moves, expanding and contracting with the seasons, opening-closing cycles apply repeated forces, and the thread in the wood tires and gradually gives way.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lca-cards-row\">\n<div class=\"lca-type-card\">\n      <span class=\"lca-type-icon\">\ud83d\udd29<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Wood screws<\/h3>\n<p>Bite from one side only, into the thickness of the door. Strength limited by the quality of the wood and the depth available.<\/p>\n<p>      <span class=\"lca-tag\">Simple fixing<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-type-card\">\n      <span class=\"lca-type-icon\">\u2699\ufe0f<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Through-bolts<\/h3>\n<p>Pass right through the door. Locked with a nut on the other side \u2014 incomparably higher pull-out strength.<\/p>\n<p>      <span class=\"lca-tag\">Permanent fixing<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-callout\">\n    A through-bolt cannot pull out of the wood \u2014 it is locked mechanically between the two rose plates, whatever the state of the wood.\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-section\" id=\"problema-falt\">\n<div class=\"lca-section-header\">\n    <span class=\"lca-step\">02<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>The rebated-door problem \u2014 the critical 5 mm zone<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Modern interior doors are made with a <strong>rebate<\/strong> \u2014 a raised step on the door leaf that overlaps the frame for sealing and sound insulation. This construction detail creates a specific problem when fixing handles with wood screws.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lca-callout lca-callout-warning\">\n    <strong>The critical zone:<\/strong> On the rebated side of the door, the distance from the surface of the rose to the internal cavity can be as little as <strong>5-8 mm<\/strong>. A wood screw biting into 5 mm of MDF or solid wood has a pull-out strength 3-5 times below the recommended standard.\n  <\/div>\n<p>In practice: if the door has a 12 mm rebate and a total thickness of 40 mm, on one side the handle is fixed normally into 28 mm of material, while on the other the screw bites into just 8-10 mm. That is the side that fails first.<\/p>\n<p>The symptoms are progressive: first the handle develops slight play, then the fixing gets looser and looser, until the roses visibly move and finally the handle can be torn off with a firm press \u2014 damaging the door surface around the hole as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lca-steps-list\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">1<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Imperceptible initial play<\/h4>\n<p>For the first months the handle seems firm. The thread in the wood is starting to tire, but nothing shows.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">2<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>The rose moves slightly<\/h4>\n<p>When pressed or twisted, the rose has 1-2 mm of play. The screws no longer grip the wood firmly.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">3<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Detachment and door damage<\/h4>\n<p>The rose comes off, tearing out MDF splinters or lacquer from the door. The rebate drastically reduces the depth available for wood screws on one face.<\/p>\n<p>      <span class=\"lca-material-use\">Very high risk without through-bolts<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-material-card\">\n      <span class=\"lca-material-icon\">\ud83e\udeb5<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>MDF doors<\/h4>\n<p>MDF fibres are less cohesive than solid wood. Wood screws loosen faster \u2014 within 2-3 years of intensive use.<\/p>\n<p>      <span class=\"lca-material-use\">High risk without through-bolts<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-material-card\">\n      <span class=\"lca-material-icon\">\ud83c\udfe0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Hollow-core (honeycomb) doors<\/h4>\n<p>The honeycomb core offers minimal support for screws. Without through-bolts, the fixing is precarious from day one.<\/p>\n<p>      <span class=\"lca-material-use\">Through-bolts are a must<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-section\" id=\"montaj\">\n<div class=\"lca-section-header\">\n    <span class=\"lca-step\">05<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How to fit a through-bolted handle correctly<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Fitting is simple and needs no special tools \u2014 every Enger set includes everything required.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lca-steps-list\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">1<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Measure the door thickness<\/h4>\n<p>Standard thicknesses are 35, 40 and 45 mm. Order the through-bolt set for the right thickness \u2014 the bolt should be 5-8 mm longer than the door is thick.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">2<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Mark and drill<\/h4>\n<p>Use the template included in the box. Drill with an 8 mm bit at exactly the indicated distance (rose centres, usually 72 mm).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">3<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Insert the spindle and the bolts<\/h4>\n<p>Fit the lower rose, insert the drive spindle, pass the bolts through the holes from the inside out.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-item\">\n<div class=\"lca-step-num\">4<\/div>\n<div class=\"lca-step-content\">\n<h4>Tighten the nuts and fit the outer rose<\/h4>\n<p>Tighten the nuts until the rose is firm on the door \u2014 without forcing. Fit the outer rose that covers the mechanism.
