What PZ, BB and WC mean on roses and handles

PZ, BB and WC describe the type of opening in the lower rose (the one on the lock). Each lock type needs a rose that matches what comes out of it: a cylinder, a key or a thumb-turn.

In practice, the code tells you what the rose faces when you put it on the door. So when you order a complete set, you choose the handle, the finish and the function of the rose (PZ, BB or WC).

PZ comes from "profile cylinder" — the euro cylinder with the pin-tumbler key that most modern interior doors and entrance doors use. The PZ rose has an oval opening, shaped exactly like the cylinder.

Choose PZ if your door locks with a cylinder-type key (the thin key with teeth along one edge). It is the most common option for lockable interior doors.

BB comes from "Buntbart" — the classic bit key (the old key with a single wide tooth). The BB rose has a round hole with a small slot at the bottom for the key bit.

Choose BB for older doors or those with a simple lock and a classic key, without a cylinder.

WC is the rose for bathroom or toilet doors. Instead of a key it has a locking thumb-turn on the inside (turn it to lock) and an emergency release slot on the outside, which you can open with a coin or a screwdriver in an emergency.

Choose WC for any bathroom, toilet or dressing-room door — anywhere you want to lock yourself in without a key.
