What is a SLIM rose?
The SLIM rose is the round plate that sits in the groove (recess) machined into the door. The name SLIM means the rose is sunk into the door, not surface-mounted.
The SLIM 5 mm rose
- Fits grooves of 5 mm depth
- Suited to modern doors with shallow machining
- The rose sits perfectly flush with the door surface
- Most often used on lacquered HDF and MDF doors
The SLIM 7 mm rose
- Fits grooves of 7 mm depth
- Suited to doors with deeper machining or solid wood
- Firmer fixing, recommended for heavy traffic
How to measure the groove in your door
- Remove the existing handle
- Measure the depth of the recess in the door surface
- 4.5 – 5.5 mm → choose SLIM 5 mm
- 6.5 – 7.5 mm → choose SLIM 7 mm
What happens if you pick the wrong thickness?
- A rose that is too thin: sits recessed, leaves a visible gap and does not fix firmly
- A rose that is too thick: stands proud, looks unsightly, and forcing it on can damage the door

The rose is the piece that covers the opening in the door around the locking cylinder. The SLIM rose is a low-profile version of the classic rose (which can reach 12-15 mm thick), made for modern doors with minimalist design.

The thickness of the rose determines how much of the door surface it covers around the cylinder. A thicker rose hides imperfections and larger holes better, but stands further proud of the door surface.

When to choose the SLIM 5 mm rose
The 5 mm rose is the right choice in these situations:
- Modern doors with HPL or laminate finish — the flat, smooth surface lets the rose blend in perfectly
- Doors lacquered white or matt black — the ultra-flat design completes the minimalist aesthetic
- Architecture projects where details matter — the 2 mm difference shows in interior photography
- Low-profile cylinders — when the cylinder does not protrude from the door surface
- Renovations where the original hole is clean — if the edges of the hole are precise, 5 mm is enough
When to choose the SLIM 7 mm rose
The 7 mm rose is more versatile and suits more situations:
- Solid wood or MDF doors — the material can have slight irregularities around the cylinder
- Replacing an old rose — the original hole can be slightly larger; 7 mm covers it better
- Standard cylinders with a slightly protruding head — the extra thickness creates a more balanced visual effect
- Classic or semi-modern doors — the more generous proportions suit them better
How to measure correctly before ordering
Before ordering SLIM roses, check these dimensions on your door: (1) The PZ axis distance — from the centre of the cylinder to the centre of the handle, standard 72 mm. (2) The cylinder type — recessed head, or protruding 2-3 mm? If it protrudes, prefer 7 mm. (3) The hole diameter — standard 28-30 mm. If larger, choose 7 mm. (4) The locking type — OB, PZ, WC or BB. The rose must match the cylinder type.
